ANTON IVANOVICH BARTSAL (1847–1927) Singer (tenor), director. The Bolshoi Theatre soloist in 1878–1902, chief director in 1882–1903. He performed the parts of Sobinin — “A Life for the Tsar”, Shuysky — “Boris Godunov”, Berendey — “The Snow Maiden”, Radames — “Aida”, etc. He produced “Ruslan and Ludmila” (1882), “Eugene Onegin” (1883), “Mazepa” (1884), “Uriel Acosta” (1885), “Mephistopheles” (1887, 1902), “Boris Godunov” (1888), “Lohengrin” (1889), “The Queen of Spades” (1891), “The Snow Maiden” (1893), “Romeo and Juliette” (1896), “The Night before Christmas” (1898), etc.
