Delfim Moreira (1868-1920) was elected vice president in 1918, when Rodrigues Alves won the election for the Presidency of the Republic. However, Alves did not take office due to illness, which led to his death in 1919. Delfim Moreira held the Presidency of the Republic during this interregnum, until new elections were held in 1919, when Epitácio Pessoa was elected President.
