Edsel Ford, the only child of Henry and Clara Ford, was president of Ford Motor Company from 1919 to 1943. Among his important contributions to the company were his management of the Rouge plant's construction, his championing of the Model A, and his direction in styling Lincoln automobiles. Ford's philanthropic efforts included significant gifts to the Detroit Institute of Arts.
