Portrait of Empress Maria Theresia (1717-1780)

Maria Theresa, the daughter of Emperor Charles VI, was one of the most influential sovereigns of the Habsburg dynasty. No brothers having survived, after the death of her father she became Archduchess of Austria as well as Queen of Hungary and Bohemia. In 1736 she married the later Holy Roman emperor. On the console table to be seen in the painting lie her scepter, the Archducal crown of Austria, the Bohemian Electoral Cap, the crown of Hungary and the Habsburg imperial crown.
