Cardinal Giuseppe Archinti (1651-1712), archbishop of Milan, passionate sympathiser of the Spanish monarchy, fallen into disgrace with the arrival of the Austrians in the Duchy of Milan in the early eighteenth century, makes a will on 15 March 1712. The extent of the legacy with respect to the Ospedale Maggiore would not have been enough to merit a portrait and the Chapter is happy to receive one from the family, which portrays the cardinal in the lapse of time between his cardinal's appointment and the date of death.
