The writer Hilde Spiel and the painter Georg Eisler were among the few Jewish artists to return to Vienna. In 1969 together with Otto Breicha they revived the former Secession magazine Ver Sacrum (1898–1903) – the triggerto the rediscovery of fin-de-siècle Vienna. They aimed to build bridges between the art of the Secession and the new Austrian avantgarde. The first issue, for example, placed Klimt, Schiele, Kokoschka alongside Milk, Hrdlicka, and Hausner.
