Alberto Savinio (whose real name was Andrea De Chirico, Giorgio's younger brother) met his wife in 1925 in the Theater of Palazzo Odescalchi in Rome, directed by Luigi Pirandello. The young actress was called Maria Morino and was back from a tour in the United States with Eleonora Duse. This painting, dating back to 1931, depicts her in an elegant dress, with a blue shawl with white flowers resting on her shoulders and a showy necklace around her neck.
