A son's tribute to his father. Mentored by father Raja Ravi Varma and his uncle C Raja Raja Varma, Rama Varma took an instant liking to painting and soon showed he was a natural. For sure, he didn't reach the levels that his father attained, but Rama Varma was an accomplished artist and continued painting till the time he passed away.

  • About the Artist: Rama Varma was the son of Raja Ravi Varma. Rama Varma inherited much of his father’s artistic skill. Known as 'artist Tampuran', he pursued higher studies in the Art of Painting at Sir J.J.School of Arts, Bombay and on completion set up his studio at Ravi Vilas Palace. Since oleographic prints of Ravi Varma's works were available in plenty, people had begun to understand the greatness of painting and art. When locals and some outsiders showed a keen interest in the art of painting, Rama Varma established the Ravi Varma School of Painting in 1915 in memory of his father.
