The name of Hernâni Torres stated in the Student List (Schuller-Verzeichnis) of Leipzig Conservatory Archive, from the academic year 1906/1907 to 1908/1909 where he studied with Teichmüller, Merckel and Richard Hofmann. During these years, it has always been awarded the scholarship awarded annually by Editora Peters to the best student of the piano class and was awarded the Prize Helbig. According to the same source, Hernâni Torres was part of the teaching staff of the Leipzig Conservatory from 1915 until 1921. He was assistant to Teichmuller, as recorded in the biography of singer and composer Johannes Weyrauch, when he refers to Hernâni Torres as one of his Teachers. In 1921 he returned to Portugal to the Conservatory of Music of Porto, as piano teacher, and in 1924 he assumed the position of director, an activity that he held until 1933.
