The fold-out postcard documents the situation of urban construction in Tsingtau as well as the social life in the area of the Kiautschou Bay (Ziaozhou Bay) on the Shandong Peninsula on the east coast of China. In 1898, after the German occuopation of the aby, the Chinese and German Empires had signed a lease agreement for the territory, valid for 99 years. Objects like this fold-out postcard were purchased in great numbers as souvenirs by the German marines.
