Around 1915, Clergyman Dwight Edwards Marvin, who retired inTroy, New York, drew a series of postcards which he then mailed to his grandchildren, John (born 1912) and Dwight Marvin. Many of these commemorate holidays such as Christmas or Easter, others simply bring greetings, with perhaps a drawing of a character or two or a simple poem or riddle. In contemporary times, such communications tend to happen immediately. During that era, heartfelt greetings came with the daily mail. It is clear from these handwritten and drawn cards that their grandfather cared a great deal for the two boys. The family saved these documents as heirlooms for many years.
