"“L’alegria que passa” is a symbolist play by Santiago Rusiñol (Barcelona, 1861 - Aranjuez, 1931). It was written in Sitges in 1897 and it was published by l’Avenç. Rusiñol made an advertising poster of the play, also printed by L’Avenç.
It was performed for the first time on the 16th January 1899 by the Intimate Theatre Adrià Gual Company, at the Lyric Theatre (Barcelona). It was commercially released at the Tivolí Theatre in Barcelona in 1901.
This play is translated into Spanish, French and Italian. Enric Morera set the music which helped to popularize several passages such as “March” or “The song of Zaira”."
