Pouch, part of Royal Horse Artillery Full Dress uniform

This heavily embellished pouch and gold belt were worn as part of a ceremonial uniform by Captain Andrew Benbow, who served as an officer in the Royal Horse Artillery from 1885 to 1912.

The exquisite embroidery features raised gold thread work combined with coloured threads used for detail work. Black glass beads have been used for the eyes of the lion and unicorn of the Royal Arms. Surrounding this is an oak and laurel wreath, a gilt metal gun, and the regimental motto in Latin Quo Fas et Gloria Ducunt which reads 'Where fate and glory lead'. Originally used to store small items, it was worn diagonally across the chest with the pouch displayed on the back of the jacket.
