José Marques de Castilho was born on January 3, 1869 and died on August 29, 1949, in Agueda.
It was a Catholic priest, publicist and teacher.
Completed the course of Theology in 1887 in Coimbra, and began his career as a teacher in 1893, becoming professor in Aveiro High School which was director until 1910.
He taught at the Normal Education School of Leiria and Viseu.
In 1827 he was appointed director and professor at the Industrial and Commercial School of Agueda, (which in 1987 acquired the name Secondary School Marques de Castilho) positions that left in 1938.
He received the rank of Officer of the Order of Public Institution in 1838 for their commitment and dedication in training and educational activities.
Of his pedagogical work stands out the concerns, democratize education, to modernize on region of Agueda and professionally training students.
Collaborated in newspapers and magazines, showing interest in regionalist, historical and philological matters. He was corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences and the Algarve Archaeological Institute and effective partner of the Minho Historical Institute. Also note that the priest Marques Castilho founded the Ethnological Institute of Borders in Viseu.

Since 1990 he developed several works of Graphic Design. He taught the disciplines of Design and Visual Education in high school.
Exposes since 1988, starting with a group exhibition and in 1989 held his first solo exhibition. Since then he has participated in numerous exhibitions, both individual and collective, in Portugal and abroad.
In 1997 he was awarded the drawing prize "Montepio Geral" in X Spring Hall of the Casino Estoril, with the work "Tacto".
His work is still documented in several books and catalogs, and is represented in several private collections in Portugal and abroad.
