Primeval sycamore forest in the territory of the Berezniki forestry

Primeval forests have been accumulating carbon for centuries. Dry branches and trunks that fell off over time became part of the forest floor and soil. Thus, at all stages of its existence, a tree is a so-called carbon storage facility. Cutting down trees, especially virgin forests, burning their remains and damaging the integrity of the forest floor cause an increase in the release of CO2 into the atmosphere.
