Full title: Privilegia regularium. A book that belonged to the library of the Vilnius Barefoot Carmelite Monastery was marked as “Liber prohibitus in Indice Librorum prohibitorum editionis novissimae Anni Domini 1664.” Libraries were equipped with separate shelves or compartments for banned books. The regulations of the monasteries often provided guidelines on how to prevent books with “harmful” content from entering the library and who should be given access to such literature.
