Prof. Monica Menendez

Professor of Civil and Urban Engineering at NYU Abu Dhabi, Director of the Research Center for Interacting Urban Networks (CITIES). She researches and develops eco-friendly transportation technologies.

Prof. Monica Menedez was born in Cuba. Her wide-spread travels and observation of the problematic ways cities around the world fail to tackle mobility was the driving force behind her inspiration. Her studies in architectural and civil engineering enabled her to work on designing new technologies that address the problem of transportation and create sustainable cities. Self-reliance, she advises youths, is the key to the realization of one’s dreams. What makes the UAE an ideal place for projects such as hers is the county’s interest in designing and building sustainable cities.
