Protesters, General John A. Logan statue, Grant Park

Chicago in 1968 often boiled down to a battle over turf. While protesters asserted the people's right to the streets and parks, the police affirmed authority and aggressively enforced curfew laws. On Monday, patrolmen waded into this mass of people to physically wrest a statue back from the crowd.
