This vase with case, created by the French glassmaker Émile Gallé, features a base of opalescent white glass, overlaid with layers of amber and burgundy tones that depict branches and leaves etched in acid. The plum (prunus) fruits, in contrast, are rendered in relief using the blowpipe technique. The chromatic contrasts between the deep red and the orange background create the effect of an autumnal sunset, reinforcing Gallé's profound connection with nature.
