Blaise is one of four brothers, all of whom became painters. He began painting in 1971 with the Bottex Brothers and Charles Anatole but soon moved to Port-au-Prince. After working with some of Haiti’s leading artists in the capitol, he left for the Bahamas for new inspiration but returned to his homeland to become a leader in a new generation of Haitian artists. His style, inspired by Haitian history, is incredibly detail-oriented and highly observant. But in the time leading up to his death in 1993, he turned to other subjects, especially fond of painting obese figures.
