Pseudospondias microcarpa is a large spreading tree up to 18 m the bole short and strongly buttressed, the trunk often irregular, twisted, the branches growing near the base and often covered with other plants. It occurs from Senegal, Sudan, Angola and Zambia. In Uganda, it is widespread and often abundant growing on lake shores, at rain-forest edges and in swampy areas in tropical forests and near streams. It is a preferred species for river catchment management, protection of streams banks and regulating water flow in swamps and rivers. The tree is planted at Tooro Botanical gardens arboretum where this photograph was taken.
