With the outbreak of World War II, the United States needed to train combat pilots and aircrews in quick order. One of the more famous training aircraft is the PT-22 “Recruit,” which sported a Kinner R-540 160 hp engine. When production ceased in 1942, over 1,000 PT-22s had been built.
