Museo Diocesano Tridentino
Trento, Italy

Embroidered satin chasuble. The embroidery is in spun gold and silver on a bleu-violet ground forming ogival links enclosing stylized lilies in two variations, alternating in a checkerboard pattern with an eagle with spread wings, the emblem of the episcopal principality of Trento, and the five mountains, the arms of the Madruzzo family. The pattern can be traced back to the type of ornamentation of oriental influence known as "damask style."
