The painting "Pátria", by Pedro Bruno, is one of the best known allegories about the official ideals of the Republic in Brazil. It represents a group of women sewing the republican national flag. According to its author, the First World War inspired him to compose the painting, which honors the sacrifice of mothers who deliver their children to the Motherland in times of war. The image has already been reproduced on postage stamps, phone cards, book covers and notes. It is currently on display in the Ministerial Room of Palácio do Catete.
