JUST IN TIME FOR EASTER Cow. 21.3.1951. The approach of Easter heralds the peak period of the year for eggs and chickens. At Balbirnie Poultry Farm, near Markinch, Fife, just now, 2,000 laying pullets and hens lay 1,500 eggs every day. Of these 3,000 a week are put into for hatching, and the surplus sent to the packing stations. The eggs are in the incubators for 21 days at a temperature of 100 degrees Fahr., and 80 per cent hatch out. When they are one day old and over the chicks are packed in cardboard boxes and sent all over the country, and this picture shows Mrs Shaw, wife of the farm's manager, packing some of the chicks into boxes for dispatch.
