Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China

Ornamental silver ship model. Guangdong-style Guangchuan ship with sails, masts, oars, rudder, and anchor. There is one cannon on the bow deck, four on the main deck and two on the stern deck. There are five oars on each side of the hull. Shields and long-handled weapons such as spears and halberds are mounted on both sides of the stern and above the stern board. The outer side of the stern is engraved with the characters “缉捕巡船” (jibu xunchuan, meaning patrol ship), and the rudder blade below is fenestrated with diamond-shaped holes, a typical feature of Guangchuan-style ships. This realistic representation of a Qing dynasty imperial patrol ship also features officers and sailors going about their duties on deck, as well as a wooden base carved to resemble ocean waves. This is a model with important historical, scientific, and artistic value.
