The woodcut painting Qiu Jin(秋瑾) reflects artist Wang Gongyi’s unique understanding of the historical event and modern art reform. Wang adopted techniques of German expressionism and Japanese woodcut art, and combines with styles of Chinese folk art. As for content, the heroine conveyed her hatred to the apathy and corruption in the dark China and called for social reform and revolution. The visual tension formed by the integration of foreign and domestic materials represents a milestone of Chinese woodcut art development.
