Quinta do Síbio

Photograph of a section of Quinta do Síbio. This is a property located on the left bank of the Roncão valley, next to the Ribeira das Canadas, a valley known for the quality of its wines. Here passes an old walled public path, which connected the Cotas train station to the town. This estate, also known as Jordão, was planted by José Joaquim Pereira Jordão (LIDDELL; PRICE: 1992, 119), and belongs to the Real Companhia Vinícola since 1934 (CORDEIRO: 1960, 164).
An extensive patch of vines on pre-phylloxera terraces is preserved here (7 ha), in addition to areas of "mortório" recolonized by tree and shrub vegetation and olive trees borders. It should be noted that this estate also preserves "mortórios" with olive and orange groves of great landscape quality.
The planting of this vineyard was done by recovering a "mortório" - the vegetation was cut, the soil was prepared and the the fallen walls were rebuilt. The planting took in consideration the most modern techniques, such as the separation of the varieties by plots and the planting of only two rows of vines per terrace, leaving a central corridor that allows the mechanization of some of the cultural operations. The reconstruction of the walls was done according to traditional techniques, using schist extracted from the estate’s quarry, assuring the maintenance of the chromatic uniformity of the set.
