Often travelers go through a disaster to reach an end to their journey. British painter George Morland, to whom this painting is attributed, depicts a shipwreck scene in a sublime romantic manner. The action of the scene is concentrated around the right side and lower foreground of the painting. Despite the painting’s gruesome subject, the storm has subsided and the crew members are saved. Hope is on the horizon.
