Cecilia Lamptey-Botchway (b. 1992, Ghanaian/ Nigerian) is an artist whose practice ranges from performance, textile design, painting to multi-media work. She graduated from the Yaba College of Technology, Yaba School of Art, Design, and Textiles in 2015.
In her recent works, Cecilia experiments with colour, incorporating and deriving meaning from symbols from cloth stamping and batik tradition, found objects and other materials like mopping wool. Cecilia almost creates a unique language with which she communicates her passions. She employs an intricate sense of geometry, a delicate perspective to achieve symmetry with colours, with the mixed media adding vibrant dimensions as props to her paintings.
'Some images always invite the observer for a conversation, one of such images is that of the Black Actress, Jo-Issa Rae Diop, known as Issa Rae. She is an extreme advocate for woman’s equality and woman’s right. As an actress who has made social justice and equality as central narratives in her craft, I cannot help but to empathize with her ideas and see her as an important voice for women’s equality.'
