Based in Shigaraki where he pursues his creative practice, Hashimoto received his PhD in fine art
in 2017 after studying in both Kyoto and Kanazawa. Known for his large-scale works, he often builds bespoke kilns in order to realise each piece.
The pursuit of intangible forces informs this artist’s deeply introspective process. Saturating clay
in accumulated layers of metal, the glazed oxide
metals settle on the surface with an iridescent quality. From the forming of clay, to building the custom kiln, glazing, and firing; the entire process
is an exploration of self. Through his struggle to give human consciousness form, Hashimoto oscillates between mind and material, creating a minimalist, ultimately ambiguous object that reflects the essence of his lifelong search.
