RAMBUT SEDANA STATUE

According to local Hindu belief, Rambut Sedana, also known as Ida Batara Rambut Sedana, is the god of abundant prosperity and wealth. He is also a manifestation of the Hyang Widhi Wasa (God Almighty). These wooden statues are tightly covered with uang kepeng, Chinese coins, with a hole in their center. When China began to trade with a number of kingdoms within the archipelago known as Nusantara, these coins became widely used throughout the region. In addition to being legal tender, the people in Bali and Lombok believed that the coins possessed a magical value, and as such used them for religious rituals. One such use was to decorate the statues of Ida Batara Rambut Sendana. The statue of Rambut Sedana is usually placed at the gedong, a place to keep sacred objects.To show respect to Batara Rambut Sedana, the Buda Cemeng Klawu ritual is performed, to ask for prosperity and to show gratitude for all the blessings and material wealth the gods have provided. Based on Balinese belief, when the gods make a brief sojourn via a medium, the statue of Rambut Sedana becomes the dwelling of the gods. During such visits, the gods are bestowing their blessings on the faithful.
