London, United Kingdom

In the 1800s the Bank of England asked printmakers to submit banknote designs which were difficult to imitate, to prevent forgeries. This print was submitted by printing partners Applegath & Cowper as an 'inimitable note.' This design is primarily red and blue with black lettering. Britannia and a caduceus appear in side panels, and the blue sum block reads 'One Pound' and is surrounded by a circular design.
