Herbert Laumen is aware of the historic significance when the final whistle sounds at the Bökelberg in January 1967. The attacker, who scored three times in that match, grabs the orange-coloured piece of equipment and takes it into the dressing room. Borussia has just beaten FC Schalke 04 11:0 on snow-covered turf - it is the Foals' highest victory on the Bökelberg.
When Helmut Grashoff notices that Laumen has snatched the ball, the Borussia manager, who is always thrifty and pragmatic, demands that his striker hand it back. But Laumen remains firm and even accepts a fine of 50 deutschmarks to keep the souvenir.
