This wedding robe features a complex design of cranes, pine trees, turtles, and other symbols of longevity, a combination of propitious motifs highly appropriate for the celebration of marriage. With its vibrant red background, golden turtles, and white cranes, the robe creates a dazzling visual impact through the bold juxtaposition of colors. Each of the three turtles utilizes a different type of padding to create a three-dimensional effect; the turtle on the right is stitched with heavy double-cord padding, the green turtle on the left uses single-cord padding with multi-twisted thread, while the one in the center top is only lightly padded. All of the turtles feature bushy tails stitched in komadori-dome-nui (couching), the swirling water waves are embroidered in hira-nui (diagonal satin stitches) in various widths, and the pine bark is rendered in straight satin stitch over padding.
