Refaced Spalding Wood

Over time, the faces of wooden clubs were inclined to become damaged and worn through use. When this occurred, the clubs lost distance and accuracy. One solution to this was to have the wood refaced.

The original face would be filed or sanded back to bare wood, and a new face with the required profile and loft created. Various face designs were used, from very fine parallel grooves to the more aggressive cross-hatch pattern seen here.
