The history of Portugal takes on an iconoclastic and critical dimension in José de Guimarães' set of reliquaries. They are limited, confined spaces where José de Guimarães' experimental, devouring impulse deposits garbage and war trophies as if they were painting. Inspired by European and African devotional cults, the reliquaries contain heterogeneous amalgamations of objects, denouncing the absurdity of war and the emptiness of conquests.
