In 1958, the Polish government invited the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (“the Joint”) to return to care for Jews repatriated from the Soviet Union. The Joint helped contribute to the religious life of the Jewish community in Poland by importing various religious supplies including prayer books and tallitot, conducting a program for repairing Jewish cemeteries, and supporting kosher kitchens which fed approximately 2,000 persons per month.
