I wanted to do something about my family. Portraits? Is portrait still a revisitable genre? Are genres relevant? Calligrams? Is there any poetic connection between our name and our image? Does the name that we were assigned define us, condition, condemn us? Is a name a clue for something else, or is it the thing itself? The names of my family were typed in Helvetica bold, capital letters, 400pt. The letters of each name detached from their linearity and juxtaposed, forming black, opaque blocks. Small displacements discovered eyes, mouths, noses, ears, hair, and necks. From each name, a possible avatar appeared. Finally, they were removed from their digital condition to be reinserted in the typography tradition: the stamp of a plate on a paper using a press. The resulting copies are the ones that compose the portraits of the names of this family.
