In no other large European city did Jews play such a significant role in the revolution of 1848 as in Vienna. Even if the uprising was carried mainly by non-Jews in terms of numbers, Jewish revolutionaries effectively participated in the events. They were inspired by the belief in the liberating German culture and nation, within which the Jews could now also consider themselves as equals among equals.
