Revolutionary War-Era Sword

This type of edged weapon, called a hunting sword, was often carried by hunters and soldiers in the 1700s. According to family tradition, James Monroe carried this sword in the Third Virginia Infantry regiment of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.
