Museu de São Roque

Processional banner of the House of Mercy of Lisbon, composed of one painting on the front, representing Our Lady of Mercy (Misericórdia) and another on the back, showing Our Lady of Piety. The processional banner, or “Flag of Misericórdia”, was used from the 17th century onward in religious processions in or outdoors, specially in ceremonies representing the old Brotherhood of Misericórdia. Among the four banners of Misericórdia belonging to the collection of the Museum of São Roque, this one stands out for its plastic quality.
