In 1901, Tuxen married the Norwegian Frederikke Treschow, and they settled in Copenhagen together with Tuxen's two daughters, Yvonne and Nina. Later that year the couple purchased Madam Bendsen's house in Skagen and rebuilt it into a stately summer residence, which in 1908 was given the name Dagminne – Dag Memorial – in memory of Princess Dagmar's visit to Skagen that year. In the following years, Tuxen painted a number of pictures in and around Skagen, mostly of family, friends, landscape, sea and the garden flowers. Furthermore, he took a vivid interest in the foundation of Skagens Museum.
