Gargallo made a torso, preserving the head, of the figure of the modern athlete (belonging to the Olympic Salute ensemble, included in this catalogue), a torso to which he subjected various non-fundamental modifications (the most notable being the recovery of total nudity). , which apparently was not completed for reasons unknown to us.
The almost mythical French foundryman Alexis Rudier (in whose workshops all the copies of Great Prophet have been made) cast, on his own initiative, this magnificent and vigorous rider's torso, whose model he still kept. Upon learning of its existence, the sculptor's heirs claimed and recovered this unique work and its original model.
Among those with a classicist tendency made by Gargallo, it is the largest sculpture, apart from those of a monumental nature (from one of which it comes, as mentioned above).
