Stepping down from the ambition for iconic architecture, this project looks back at the lost historical evidence, focusing on the endangered modernist monument—the bus station building— while recognizing qualities in projects developed previously. Visions of a city train by another architecture studio, a waterfront park from a successful diploma project and Rail Baltica —back then still only a vision.
Lack of continuity is one of the main reasons for significant urban problems in Riga. Although the proposal did not result in a commision and construction process, it has served as the basis for the Rail Baltica project development and to some extent for the historical decision to finally, after 100 years, eliminate the railway embankment dividing the city.
