According to the inscription, the Torah finials were “already in 1795 in the synagogue of the venerable Rav Aaron Todesco – may he rest in peace – gabbai of the Weisser Stern synagogue.” Before Dempfingerhof and the City Temple, the Weisser Stern prayer house in today’s Sterngasse was the most important meeting place of the “tolerated” Viennese Jews. Rav Aaron was the grandfather of the industrialist Hermann Todesco.
