The commemorative medal consists of three parts: a stamped white metal bar pin, a round pewter (?) pendant, and a short length of medium blue grosgrain silk. The silver colored bar pin has an image of a shield in the center with leaves on either side. A clasp pin is soldered on the back. A short length of medium blue ribbon hangs from the slot at the bottom of the bar pin. A metal ring is sewn to the bottom of the ribbon which supports the siver colored pendant by another small metal ring. The obverse of the pendant has a relief image portrait of Gen. Robert E. Lee in the center. "GENERAL" is in raised letters along the left edge; "R. E. LEE" is in raised letters along the right edge. The reverse side of the pendant has a relief image of the Lee Equestrian Monument in the center. The following is in raised letters surrounding the image, "R. E. LEE MONUMENT / RICHMOND, VA. / DEDICATED MAY 29, 1890."
