The electronic flash was not introduced to the German market until after the war. Compared with the flashbulb, it had the advantage that the flash discharged repeatedly without needing to be replaced. The first units, however, were somewhat unwieldy since the generators came separately and were hung over the shoulders. Because of their short flash duration and high luminous power, they were primarily used by press photographers.
