The use and possession of the ceremonial drums was essential to the traditional monarchy. These objects symbolized both the power of the King and the supremacy of Rwanda over its annexed territories; some gave evidence of victories wom in combat like the drum Nicknamed "Nanguburundi". The drum was captured in Burundi by the Army of King Cyirima II Rujugira during 17th Century. The Rwandan court entrusted it, for supervision, to the ritualists Ababona who lived in Gisekein the Nyaruguru region. It was kept as a war trophy
