Rubén Olivares, the "Púas" (1947- ), began his amateur boxing career in 1964 and debuted as a professional a few years later. In 1969, he became the third Mexican to win the world bantamweight title, under the direction of Arturo "Cuyo" Hernández. Before his consecration, he accumulated 51 fights, with 49 victories by knockout, one by decision and one draw.
